In India, we usually tend to wake up to a problem, if it is firstly highlighted and prioritized in the western countries. This applies to the issue of oxygen deficiency in the air, especially in massive air pollution hit country like ours. Issues related to oxygen deficiency has been the least explored problem even by the academia.
To bridge this gap and to enlighten young minds about the grave problem of oxygen deficiency in the air, Anish Aneja, Product Manager, Bonphul Air Products, recently presented a lecture on the topic “The Oxygen Problem” to the students of Environment Management and Sustainable Development under the Department of Resource Management and Design Application, at Lady Irwin College, Delhi University. About 20 students, attended the lecture.
“It was interesting to see the curiosity building up amongst the students. It is alarming a thought that the oxygen deficiency in the air has still not been recognised as a serious environmental crisis. I am happy that I have been able to share and discuss with the students about the problem of oxygen and I am also looking forward to having more such sessions,” exclaimed Anish after the presentation.
Monika Nadar, a final year student from the department, shared her experience too, “We have studied air pollution and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in our course, however, we were not aware of the oxygen deficiency issue and it is actually shocking to believe that we are all living under an acute oxygen crisis. Our syllabus never discussed the problem of oxygen deficiency happening. This session with Mr Anish Aneja has been very informative and now we are more eager to learn about this problem.” Monika is also working on a research paper focusing on oxygen enrichment in a controlled environment and its user experience.
